Our revolutionary new instant format, Instax 3D, has launched! Instax 3D is shot on common Instax Wide film. A single exposure creates two side-by-side images that form a stereo pair when mounted using our basic fold-over mount.

This is a kit to shoot Instax 3D using a modified version of our flagship Stereo 12 camera. The full kit consists of:

  • Stereo 12 Pancake Body
  • Stereo Power Module (optional; for electronic lensboards)
  • Mercury Instax Wide Motorized Back (optimized for Instax 3D)
  • Mercury Instax 3D Pinhole Board
  • Instax 3D Viewfinder (optimized for 65mm)
  • 25X Instax 3D multi-fold mounts

The camera is completely modular. With the addition of a Base 20 spacer, the camera body can be used to shoot standard medium format slides, accepting all compatible Stereo 12 backs and most compatible lenses. Likewise, the Instax back can be used on nearly any large format (4x5) camera, including the Mercury Universal 4x5. The Instax 3D Pro camera, then, is more akin to three cameras in one.

There are five recommended lenses for Instax 3D: the Instax 3D pinhole board included with this kit, Schneider Angulon 65mm f/6.8 lenses or Super Angulon f/8 lenses mounted on the Mercury Compur 00 57mm Base lensboard, Trioptar 103mm lenses mounted on the manual Mercury Century 57mm base lensboard, or the Wistar 130mm lens block mounted on the Mercury Wistar lensboard. Other lenses are technically compatible, but will not produce perfectly-sized stereo prints.

Once an exposure is taken with this camera, press the eject button until the Instax print is fully ejected. It will self-develop very quickly. When it is mostly developed, cut it in half (using the thin overlapped image line as your easy guide) and stick it on one of our paper mounts.  The mounts are taped in several places with standard Scotch double-sided tape, either beforehand or at the time of mounting.  Fold over the top, sides, and bottom, and your mount is finished! The final product looks just like any Instax or Polaroid print, except that it contains a left and right image ready to be viewed by the inexpensive Owl Lite viewer by the London Stereoscopic Company, or any standard stereo card viewer, modern or vintage, with our simple Stereo Card Viewer Adapter.

The resulting image, ready in a minute, is easily viewable with cheap devices and guaranteed to bring great joy to you, and anyone you gift a shot to!

Instax 3D leans into negative parallax, and by default subjects closer than 6 feet typically rise off of the print, toward the viewer. This makes for very fun viewing!

To purchase components of this camera system separately, see our Instax Wide Motorized Back, the Stereo 12 Pancake Body, and the Stereo Power Module.

For additional components for the Instax 3D system, see our Instax 3D Lensboards, the Brilliant Finder (recommended for more precise framing), and additional Instax 3D Mounts.
